IC INFORMATION
Character's Name: Macau Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China (中華人民共和國澳門特別行政區). Just Macau is fine. He was also given the name "Macau Which Carries the Name of a Most Faithful God" by Portugal.
Age: While he is technically the embodiment of a landmass it is difficult to say, though the Portuguese set up a permanent settlement in Macau in 1557 and this is the year I go off of for giving him a general age. Since his canon point is present day, this makes him nearly 456.
Canon: You've surely gotten this link before, but go crazy!
Canon Point: He is from the present day and all of his
Species: … is "special administrative region" a species? No?
Gender: Physically and mentally male, though his identity as a city takes precedence over this.
Orientation: I play Macau as bisexual, largely for the reason listed above. Sex and gender are not particularly important to him when it comes to choosing a mate (there are simply more significant connections he would prefer to make with someone). That being said, he's been much too focused on business these days to think about settling down.
History: This should suffice!
Appearance:
Character sketches, black and white.
Fanart, color reference.
Personality: Macau is depicted as a reserved, calm, and businesslike young man. When others are upset or chaotic he is unwavering, responding to situations levelheadedly. That said, he does relax and joke around with those that are close to him, namely Hong Kong, China, and Taiwan. He likes to appear philosophical and intelligent but he doesn't allow these things to make him proud. Despite seemingly being quite stoic he almost always has a smile on his face and greatly enjoys more frivolous things such as food, toys, firecrackers, and nice clothing.
Macau is very open-minded due to being raised largely by Portugal, maintaing ties with China all the while and returning to him in 1999. He still incorporates Portuguese customs and religious festivals into his every day life and has taken a liking to developing his own new traditions… and blending cuisines with delicious results.
He is positive despite an unpleasant history and he's learned to deal with all sorts of hardships and face them head-on. Only recently has he begun to attain success in a way comparable to Hong Kong's rise, though he was never jealous of him and instead supported him completely in his own ventures. Macau has become very rich in recent years thanks to a booming gambling business; he even outshines Las Vegas! He still remains unflustered despite all the attention he's been receiving, with his very small home (only about eleven and a half square miles) having the highest population density out of all of the countries. It's a lot of popularity to deal with so he's become very good at playing the role of a hospitable host.
Despite his good qualities he does have a tendency to over think things, getting too philosophical and becoming quiet as a result.
As for his relationships, his strongest tie is to his cute younger brother, Hong Kong. They've been through a lot of similar difficulties and can understand each other better than anyone else, despite being raised by different people. They live less than a hundred miles apart, after all, and share a lot of cultural similarities. Macau wants to make sure that Hong Kong always does well, not just as a representative of special administrative regions (fight onward!) but as a friend and as a brother. He's very mature about their past problems, even holding no grudges against Hong Kong for stealing much of his business when he opened up as a competing port and forced Macau into destitution. Macau, as the older brother, fought stolidly onward as a successful fisherman before finding his own path. Now he spends a lot of time entertaining Hong Kong and they enjoy a mutually beneficial relationship. As for Portugal, Macau bears no ill will towards him and holds onto past memories and loyalties but he is now focusing on developing himself by establishing ties with other European nations as well, along with America and of course China. He also gets along well with Taiwan, acting respectful and gentlemanly towards her.
Abilities: He's a landmass! Meaning that he's pretty close to immortal. As for special skills, he's great at making money, opening casinos, cooking delicious food, making toys, making clothes, making ceramics, and making firecrackers. Also, he speaks fluent Portuguese, Cantonese, Mandarin, English, and of course Macanese. Other languages he knows bits and pieces of include French, Hokkien, and Tagalog.
Other: Here are links to a few of his canon appearances and information:

SAMPLES
First Person: [ The camera clicks on to at first show nothing more than the ground before it is quickly turned around, focusing in on a pleasant smiling face. No, he's not overly concerned or bothered. Naturally he's aware that he's nowhere near his own home, knowing every inch of that area, but through the clever use of ferries and a fantastic public transport system he expects to be returned quickly. ] I feel very well rested and refreshed but it seems that someone has misplaced me. It's very open and-- Well, I suppose that whoever is viewing this can see for themselves.
[ He'll helpfully turn the camera around at this point, showing off the landscape and whatever structures can be viewed from his current location. Macau hasn't made much effort to explore just yet. Networking with other people that had more information is the smart thing to do. He is also stubbornly refusing to set down the fans he's holding despite having to manipulate the camera. ] The buildings are small. The land could be utilized more effectively. Could it be that this is…? [ And now he's going to trail off for propriety's sake. ]
Please respond quickly to this. I'm assuming that any messages sent to me will appear on this screen. Hong Kong would probably know better than I would but he isn't here with me right now. [ He finds this a little strange, curious as to where his younger brother had been carted off to… Surely someone wouldn't purposefully choose to separate the two of them, after all. That would be mutually destructive to them both. ]
Also, I'd like to know where I could find Hong Kong, Taiwan, or China, if anyone has come across them. They might also be lost. I can describe them later also if that will help at all. Adeus.
Third Person: It had seemed very sudden to him, going to sleep one night and then waking up the next morning to hear the news that it had finally been completed. Nearly one hundred thousand square meters, one of the largest buildings in the world, and every inch of it designed with special care.
Well, it was only fitting that he should have the largest casino, wasn't it? It was something Macau had worked very hard to achieve through smart international connections and endless business deals. Thinking about touring the fruit of his labors was something that actually excited him when so few things could manage to. Just wait until he had guests over! Now he wouldn't be without a pleasant anecdote, a sage reflection, or an exceedingly massive conference hall. He would serve as a true host.
Hong Kong, China, and Taiwan would be the first ones he would call, of course. Then perhaps Japan and America, then Portugal. That would be smart. Surely once they saw how much fun they could have in his home they would make the effort to visit often. They wouldn't be left wanting for expert service or beautiful sights, that was for certain.
And… well, it wasn't particularly tasteful, but he allowed himself to consider if they'd bring any gifts along. Not that he wanted anything lavish but the Macau Grand Prix was coming up and it would be nice if he could afford to clean up more quickly once it was over this time. All that burned rubber on the road was extremely tacky and he didn't want his guests to have to see something like that.
Now Macau was focusing on unpleasant things. It was best to set off before he got to thinking a little too much again. Besides, the opening of a new casino required him to put on his very best tux.
